Distracted Lyrics & Tracklist – Thundercat

Album Overview

Distracted is the fifth studio album by American musician and bassist Thundercat (Stephen Bruner), scheduled for release on April 3, 2026 via the Brainfeeder label. This album arrives six years after his previous full‑length project, continuing his exploration of genre‑bending music that blends elements of funk, jazz, soul, and experimental R&B while confronting themes of modern life, overstimulation, introspection and the emotional fallout from loss and connection.

Executive production on the record is shared between Thundercat and acclaimed producer Greg Kurstin, with additional creative contributions from producers including Flying Lotus, Kenny Beats (Kenneth Charles Blume III) and The Lemon Twigs. The project features a diverse lineup of collaborators across its 15 tracks, incorporating influences from hip‑hop, psychedelic pop, and modern electronic music as well as Thundercat’s signature virtuosic bass style.

Musical Style and Themes

The album’s soundscape encompasses lush, groove‑oriented arrangements rooted in funk and R&B traditions, punctuated by experimental production techniques and genre‑fluid songwriting. Lyrically, Distracted addresses the challenges of contemporary existence — from digital overload to personal reflection and relationships — capturing a balance between exuberance and existential contemplation. The presence of guest artists across multiple tracks adds varying perspectives and textures, from introspective verses to energetic collaborations that broaden the album’s sonic palette.
